Is there anything better than the trill of a haunted house? Knowing that something terrifying could be lurking around every corner is exhilarating.
But, as it turns out, there is something better... Horror escape rooms. These take some of the best aspects of haunted houses and add in the puzzles offered by escape rooms to create a truly intense experience.
Escape rooms can be difficult enough, but figuring out puzzles while you're constantly worried about something scary happening is even more challenging!
1. The Official SAW Escape Room
Location: Saw Escape Game, Las Vegas, NV, USA
"Do you want to play a game?" If that game is The Official Saw Escape Room in Las Vegas, then my answer is a resounding "yes!" This room is designed and created with the official SAW license, so it has all the Jigsaw goodness you'd expect from a SAW movie, but without all the actual pain, suffering and murder.
If you're a fan of horror movies and the unique feel of SAW, you need to skip the casinos and hit this room the next time you're in Las Vegas. Jigsaw will be ready and waiting to meet you!
2. The Basement
Location: The Basement, Los Angelas, CA, USA
This room is so good that the escape room company named their whole business after it. While The Basement features other horror-themed rooms, the room for which the place is named seems to be the one you need to try first.
In this room, you and your group have been kidnapped by serial killer Edward Tandy. You'll need to prove to him that you're worthy of escaping his twisted basement if you want to survive. It's intended to be on the difficult side and quite intense, so you'd better bring your A game for this room.
3. The Asylum
Location: 13th Gate Escape, Baton Rouge, LA, USA
I think this is one of the coolest escape rooms in the world. It's incredibly challenging and terrifying at the same time, and I think it's worth traveling the globe to try it yourself if you're an escape room fan.
It's rated as the scariest room at a place that specializes in horror escape rooms, so you know it's something to be excited about!
A local reporter intending to investigate the asylum hasn't returned, so you and your friends decide to go in looking for her. Of course, terror and puzzles are waiting for you on the inside.
4. Spooky Room 479
Location: Escape Locked, New York, NY, USA
This rooms sounds incredibly creepy and intense, but also fun at the same time! In addition to being quite scary, it also sounds like it's extremely challenging, featuring a 25% success rate.
In Spooky Room 479, you decide to enter a student's dorm room that no one has entered for years. As you might expect, this ends up being a terrible idea, and you end up locked inside.
You'll need to keep your wits about you as you solve difficult puzzles in an attempt to survive.
5. Zoe
Location: Escapade Games, Fullerton, CA, USA
Don't let the simplicity of this room's name make you think it's simple, because it might be one of the most involved escape rooms on the list. That's because it's not really a room, but rather an entire haunted house filled with fun and challenging puzzles.
The premise behind Zoe is quite simple: you've been summoned to a creepy house by a girl named Zoe. Once there, you need to escape if you want to survive.
Outside of the puzzles, there are live actors that'll scare the pants off of you as you go through the room, truly blurring the lines between escape rooms and haunted houses.
6. Bogeyman
Location: Trap Door Escape, Red Bank, NJ, USA
The name Bogeyman invokes everyone's childhood fear of monsters. But why run from those fears when you can embrace them in this horrifying New Jersey escape room.
What's cool about this room is that offers two levels of fear depending on the age and comfort level of participants.
In this room, you and your team of paranormal investigators are looking into missing children. Once you arrive, the paranormal takes over, and you'll need to solve puzzles and escape in order to survive and solve the case.
