It was only a matter of time before Apple decided to launch its own streaming, and now it's going down. The company just rolled out its own game streaming service called Apple Arcade, and come November 1, Apple will roll out Apple TV+.
Just the idea of Apple getting into TV is exciting, but once you get a look at the kind of content coming, it's impossible to keep the hype levels down.
Which shows look the most promising for Apple TV+? We've sifted through the trailers, descriptions, and hype to choose the shows we think will be worth watching when Apple TV+ on November 1.
In total, Apple has announced more than 25 different original shows for its new service, and we've narrowed it down to the top five that we're most excited about.
1. See
Premise: See is a post-apocalyptic show where humanity has gone blind (literally). Society must find a way to survive without that important sense. Things change when twins are born with a functioning sense of sight.
Why We're Excited: The show stars Jason Momoa. Need we say more? Fine, it's also an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic story with Francis Lawrence at the helm.
2. For All Mankind
Premise: This show asks "what would have happened if the global space race never ended and the space program remained the cultural centerpiece of America's hopes and dreams." The space race was an interesting time for humanity, and digging into the space race further sounds interesting.
Why We're Excited: The premise is definitely what drew us in, but Ronald D. Moore writing and directing the series is what really has us looking forward to it. His experience with Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica makes him the perfect person to bring this space story to life.
3. Amazing Stories
Premise: We only have a broad idea of what this show will end up being, but it sounds exciting. Apple says it will "transport the audience to worlds of wonder through the lens of today's most imaginative filmmakers, directors, and writers." It's an anthology, just like the original Amazing Stories from the '80s, so each episode should be a fun ride.
Why We're Excited: Even though we don't know a ton about this show, we know the original was good, and we know Steven Spielberg is serving as a producer on the new show. It's hard to not to be excited for this one.
4. The Morning Show
Premise: This show is all about the drama that happens behind-the-scenes of a top morning news show. When Alex Levy's partner is out of the show due to a sexual misconduct scandal, she struggles to keep her job.
Why We're Excited: With this one, it's all about the cast. It features some huge names like Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Billy Crudup, Néstor Carbonell, and Mark Duplass. Add in the interesting premise, and you have a recipe for success.
5. Snoopy in Space
Premise: Snoopy wants to be an astronaut and the show takes viewers along for the ride as he attempts to live his dream. It's a simple enough plot, but it sounds exciting for anyone who was a fan of Peanuts at any point in their life.
Why We're Excited: This comes from Peanuts Worldwide and DHX Media, so you know it'll have the reverence for the beloved cartoon dog. While the show is called Snoopy in Space, it features Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts crew as well!
Are You Signing Up for Apple TV+?
Just about every company is trying to get you to sign up for a monthly subscription, and Apple is definitely no exception. However, at $4.99/mo with a free one-week trial, the company is offering a pretty solid value proposition.
Apple has brought in some big names and given them some healthy budgets to make some promising shows. It's pretty hard to pass up, at least at first. Will the shows and films live up the high expectations? Only time will tell. But as we approach the launch, it's pretty hard to ignore Apple TV+.
