There are two things in this world that I love more than all others: horror and video games.
So when I look at the schedule for upcoming games, the first thing that catches my attention is games listed in the horror genre.
As it turns out, 2020 is slated to be a pretty fantastic year for fans of horror. If you like your video games to shake you to your very core, check these out when they release, because they should scratch that horror itch in a big way!
1. The Last of Us Part 2
When it comes to horror games, you'd have a hard time finding one that gained more critical and fan acclaim than The Last of Us. Developer Naughty Dog has managed to create one of the scariest, most intense video games ever released, and all signs point to the sequel building on the first game. It's hard to find a game with more hype around it than The Last of Us 2, whether you look in the horror genre or outside of it.
2. Dying Light 2
Dying Light was a solid game. It wasn't necessarily a masterpiece like The Last of Us, but it definitely laid down a strong foundation. If you enjoy open-world gameplay and zombies, Dying Light 2 is right up your alley. What really makes these games stand out is the way you move through the world with parkour. It breaks up the tension since you have the ability to get away from the zombies when things become overwhelming.
3. Resident Evil 3 Remake
The Resident Evil 2 remake might be one of the greatest remasters ever released. It was so good that it certainly set the expectations for the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake. If you're a fan of Resident Evil's particular brand of survival horror, but you don't like the way the old game feels, this remake has your name all over it.
4. System Shock
Long before Bioshock took the horror gaming world by storm, there was System Shock. Some might argue that System Shock is actually better and scarier, so it's impossible to keep the excitement at bay for a new game carrying the System Shock name. The game is shaping up to be an intensely horrifying FPS, which should satiate all horror and shooter fans.
5. Remothered: Broken Porcelain
I'll admit that Remothered: Broken Porcelain was not on my radar until a couple of days ago. Now that I've seen the trailers and read about the game, it's easily among my most anticipated for the year. It serves as the sequel to Remothered: Tormented Fathers, and it looks to build on that game in some pretty exciting ways. It's still pretty far from release, but as more information comes out, I expect the hype to grow even more.
6. Rainbow Six Quarantine
Rainbow Six is a franchise that is synonymous with tactical shooters. What it isn't known for, though, is horror. But that isn't stopping Ubisoft from having a go with the upcoming Rainbow Six Quarantine. We don't know too much about the game outside of the teaser trailer, but when you take the gameplay offered in the Rainbow Six games and add elements of horror, it's impossible to avoid being interested.
7. The Outlast Trials
We know very little about The Outlast Trials. We know it's the next game in the Outlast franchise. We know it features an emphasis on co-op gameplay. We know it's probably going to be incredibly scary. The first two games in the Outlast series are right up there with the Amnesia games in terms of atmospheric horror, so we're hoping to see more of that from this one when it comes out in 2020.
