Do you enjoy kicking some butt? Does the idea of shooting a fireball from your first directly into the face of your opponent get you all excited?

Thankfully, fighting games are back in a big way. Starting with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, fighting games found themselves back at the forefront of the gaming world.

Now that the PlayStation 4 is winding down its lifecycle, it's time to take some retrospective looks back at the console generation that was.

In terms of fighting games, the PlayStation 4 actually had tons to choose from. Here are my picks for the greatest fighting games still worth playing on the PlayStation 4 today!

10. Soulcalibur VI

Soulcalibur is one of the most iconic video game franchises. When it comes to fighting games, few have had the staying power of Soulcalibur.

While Soulcalibur VI is not necessarily as good as some of the older games, it's still a fantastic fighting game that deserves its spot in the top 10 of the generation.

9. Mortal Kombat 11

Is there anything more fun in the world of fighting games than pulling off a perfect fatality?

One game that genuinely benefited from the current generation's graphical power is Mortal Kombat, with all the blood and gore featured in fatalities.

Mortal Kombat 11 may not be the best Mortal Kombat game ever released, but it's a damn good one, and it looks incredible.

8. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Marvel vs. Capcom is known for its frantic team-based fighting battles, and infinite perfectly brings that iconic style of gameplay to the PlayStation 4.

It has a great cast of characters and really fun gameplay, which makes this a fighting game worth checking out for anybody who is a fan of the genre.

7. Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V had a rocky start when it first came out. In fact were it not for updates it may not of even made the list.

However, Capcom managed to get the game to a good place, and while not as good as Street Fighter IV, it's still damn good fighting game.

If you enjoy the fighting style and mechanics offered by Street Fighter, then you already know Street Fighter V is going to be right up your alley.

6. Granblue Fantasy: Versus

Arc System Works makes fantastic fighting games and this one is no exception. If you enjoy super fast-paced fighters with that Arc System Works style, then this is the game for you.

It's one of those sleeper hits that didn't get as much praise as it deserved when it came out, but it's getting plenty of praise now.

5. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Here we have another game from Arc System Works. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 doesn't exactly have a name that flows off the tongue, but it has silky smooth gameplay that'll keep you coming back for more.

Not only is this a fantastic game in terms of gameplay, but it's one of the best-looking games on the PS4, period.

4. Mortal Kombat XL

Here we have another Mortal Kombat game making its way into the list. This time it's in the form of Mortal Kombat XL, which is just a little bit better than Mortal Kombat 11. If you only play one Mortal Kombat game on the PlayStation 4, this is the one to play.

3. Tekken 7

When it comes to the top three fighting games of the generation, it's a tossup between any of the three. In the end, Tekken 7 comes in third.

If you enjoy 3D fighting games in the exciting story that Tekken games tend to put forth, you want to play this one if you somehow haven't already.

2. Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball FighterZ is easily one of the best fighting games of all time and is more than worthy of its spot on this list.

If you're a fan of Dragon Ball Z, this game has everything you could want and more. Even if you're not a fan of Dragon Ball Z, the deep fighting mechanics offered by this game should be more than enough to keep you coming back over and over again.

1. Injustice 2

Between this and Dragon Ball FighterZ, it's clear that licensed games are back in a big way.

Injustice takes the fun gameplay from Mortal Kombat and mixes it with your favorite DC superheroes to create that sits atop the throne of fighting games released for the PlayStation 4.
